Cannon salute
Royal tradition in the present
When the cannons thunder from the Flag Bastion at Kronborg Castle, it is marked with a strong and traditional gesture: a cannon salute. This military honor has been used for centuries to pay tribute to royalty and significant events in the royal house.
At Kronborg Castle, a salute is fired on special occasions such as royal birthdays, official births and deaths, and when Their Majesties board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog. The most ceremonial salute – the grand royal salute – consists of 27 shots. The number of shots varies depending on the occasion. The cannon salute can be experienced from the area around Kronborg Castle or with a regular day ticket to the castle. It is an experience that brings history to life and reminds us of Kronborg's significance as a royal and military landmark.
