How do I get to Kronborg?

Ticket office
You will find the ticket office in the yellow house after the first moat.
At the red gate after the last moat, you can also purchase an admission ticket using a payment card.
Public transport
By train
The train is the most convenient way to reach Kronborg Castle, and the journey itself is part of the experience. Take the Coastal Railway (Kystbanen) operated by DSB from Copenhagen Central Station (København H) directly to Helsingør Station. Trains run approximately every 20 minutes throughout the day, and the journey takes around 46 minutes.
Once you arrive at Helsingør Station, Kronborg is just a 10-minute walk along the harbor with views of the castle appearing already as you leave the station. Follow the waterfront north and the castle will guide you the rest of the way.
By bus Bus lines 801A and 802 serve Helsingør Station, connecting the town with the wider North Zealand area. From the station, Kronborg is a pleasant 10-minute walk along the harbor. Bus travel is a good option if you're coming from nearby towns such as Hillerød or Fredensborg.
By car Kronborg is located at Kronborg 2C, 3000 Helsingør. From Copenhagen, follow the E47 motorway north toward Helsingør — the drive takes approximately 45–50 minutes depending on traffic.
Public parking is available at Nordhavnsvej, a 5-minute walk north of the castle. Note that the car park fills up quickly during peak hours around midday, especially in summer — we recommend arriving before 10:30 or after 14:00 if possible.

Tickets and annual passes
Can I get a refund for my ticket?
No, we unfortunately do not refund your ticket. However, once you have purchased the ticket, you have a whole year to find a suitable time to visit us.Can I exchange my ticket for an annual pass?
Yes, you can upgrade your ticket within 24 hours at the castle, provided you bought it at the castle’s ticket office at the entrance. Tickets purchased online or through other retailers cannot be upgraded to an annual pass. The ticket cannot be upgraded online.

Public parking
The public payment parking lot is located just 5 minutes walk north of the castle. The address is: Nordhavnsvej, 3000 Helsingør.
Note: the parking lot is often filled in peak hours during the midday.
Accessible parking
Accessible parking is available inside the castle grounds to the left of the red gate.
Wardrobe
Cloakroom facilities are available free of charge. It is not permitted to bring large backpacks and luggage into the castle.

You can find Café Sundtolden next to the castle shop. Here you can buy hot and cold drinks, snacks, and treats.

Kronborg has many stairs and no elevator, therefore it is not easy to get around as a wheelchair user.

Free admission is granted for one companion upon presentation of a Companion Card. The Companion Card must be shown at the ticket office upon arrival at the museum.

Strollers and changing tables
Strollers and prams are not allowed inside the castle and must be parked according to staff instructions. Changing tables are available in the restroom.
Children must not be left unattended in a stroller. An adult must always be present at the stroller if a child is sleeping in it.
We recommend bringing a baby carrier, swaddle or similar when visiting the castle during a midday nap.
Photography
Private photography
Photography is allowed at Kronborg, just remember:
- It is for private use.
- You may not bring a camera stand or tripod.
- Our exhibited items must not be subjected to abuse.
- You must not disturb the other guests.
- You must follow the instructions of our staff.
Professional photography
Professional photography intended for commercial use must be conducted by agreement with the castle.

A perfect day trip from Copenhagen
Kronborg is one of the most popular day trips from Copenhagen — and for good reason. The castle is just 46 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station, making it easy to combine with a full day of exploring Helsingør and the surrounding area.
A suggested day trip itinerary:
Morning: Take the early train from Copenhagen and arrive at Kronborg when the doors open at 10:00. The castle is quieter in the morning and the light over the Øresund strait is spectacular.
Midday: Explore the castle rooms, the casemates, and if you're visiting in summer 2026, you can catch a Hamlet Highlights performance in the courtyard.
Afternoon: Walk back through Helsingør's old town. The town center, the cathedral, and the narrow medieval streets are all worth a detour before heading back to the station.
Evening: Grab dinner at one of the citys great restaurants, take an evening stroll by the harbor back to the station.
If you hold a Copenhagen City Pass covering zones 1–99, your train journey to Helsingør is included. Otherwise, a standard DSB return ticket covers the trip.
