Trumpets sounding, cannons firing, and a fountain shooting water 10 meters into the air. That's what it looked like when the king held a feast at Kronborg.
Today, you can still catch a glimpse of the magnificent history, but without cannon fire and water fountains in your face. Instead, you are greeted with smiles and fascinating stories about past kings, culture, and architecture. Step inside and delve into centuries of history – we promise, it will be a celebration!

Towers, Steps and Total Show of Power

Kronborg's towers and spires rise high above the castle courtyard, showcasing the strength of royal power. The beautiful copper towers were meant to impress visitors, while the formidable Cannon Tower was where the King truly flexed his power. If you have strong legs, you can climb the 145 steps up to the Cannon Tower and be rewarded with a fantastic view of the sound, Southern Sweden, and North Zealand. It's not hard to understand, why this historic place is on of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Denmark.

Quench Your Thirst

The original fountain in the middle of the castle courtyard no longer exists, but the water is perfectly fine. In the time of Frederick II, there stood an impressive fountain in the middle of the courtyard, about 10 meters high. Today, there is a somewhat more modest well but it is drinking water that you can fill in your water bottle.

Power is in the Details

The Renaissance kings understood that art served not only to impress but also to communicate political messages. That’s why the facades of the castle courtyard were richly decorated with intricate sandstone carvings. These stunning details were designed to showcase the kings as modern, cultured, and immensely powerful rulers. Both Frederick II and Christian IV left their personal marks on the castle, ensuring their legacies would never be forgotten.
